Drive Electric South Dakota is a proud partner of Drive Electric USA, a U.S. Department of Energy initiative. Our mission is simple: to provide consumers with a reliable platform to learn more about electric transportation options, including electric vehicles (EVs), charging solutions, and dealership connections. We are here to empower South Dakota drivers with the information they need to make informed decisions about their transportation future.
Our Vision
We envision Drive Electric South Dakota as the central hub for all things related to electric vehicles in our state. Our long-term goal is to educate consumers, build essential partnerships with utilities and dealerships, and support local and state governments as they prepare for an electrified transportation future. We believe that informed consumers can make a lasting impact on the transportation landscape.
Our Values
Our work is guided by seven key priorities:
- Creating a recognizable, branded statewide EV initiative
- Educating consumers about electric vehicles and their benefits
- Fostering strong relationships with utilities and regulators
- Conducting EV infrastructure planning to support South Dakota’s needs
- Providing education and support to local and state government officials
- Developing preferred or certified EV dealer programs
- Offering resources and guidance for fleet electrification
Our Story
Drive Electric South Dakota was founded in 2023 as a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy’s Drive Electric USA program and key South Dakota stakeholders. These founding members, including electric utilities and vehicle dealerships, were inspired to create an organization that serves as a comprehensive resource for consumers. Their goal was to help South Dakotans learn more about electric vehicles and make educated decisions about their transportation options.
Our Partnerships
Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our partners. We are fortunate to collaborate with all of South Dakota’s utilities, the South Dakota Auto Dealers Association, and the South Dakota Trucking Association. Together, we are creating a robust foundation for electric vehicle education in the state.
Our Future
Looking ahead, our goal is to continue expanding our reach and providing valuable, up-to-date information on electric vehicles to South Dakota consumers. We will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that consumers have access to the resources and knowledge they need to make informed choices.
